The CHI conference is the leading international forum for human-computer
interaction. I submitted a proposal to develop and run some
projects for CHIkids, the kids section.
This
proposal was accepted and I designed, built and ran three
projects. The projects were (1) JASPA (a Jump and Spell Preschool
Agent), (2) Space Bunny (kid oriented pseudo VR to make a
comic book) and (3) Alien Scenes (making flick books by remote
control of a video camera). As well the developing the basic
concepts, I wrote custom software (in Director) and designed,
built and tested custom hardware all on a shoestring budget.

The
project required designing and building pressure pads. Click here
for a page describing to do this and with some tips on other possible
avenues of research for homebrew pads.
